The United States is getting older as a whole. Studies show the fastest growing demographic in the country is the 70 and older age bracket. This is obviously a great barometer to indicate that we are living longer, but it also serves as proof that the need for some sort of senior care service will also be more important than ever. It seems to be a popular service as it stands now; it is thought that about 12 million individuals nationwide receive home care for a wide host of conditions ranging from long-term issues to terminal illnesses. Yet as more and more seniors get to a point where some sort of care is needed, there is also great potential for a greater proliferation of families that decide to try and do everything that they possibly can to handle taking care of their golden age loved one on their own. While this is a noble pursuit, it is also a daunting task that can quickly take a toll on a family's collective physical and mental health. The good news here is that Towson, Maryland is more than ready to meet the potential increase in the demand for home care, as the city is home to plenty of high-quality, fully accredited home care options that can administer this special kind of service to seniors in an exceptional fashion.
Towson in Brief
Towson is an interesting place. For one thing, this city of approximately 55,000 residents isn't technically a city. Rather, it is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place within Baltimore County, Maryland. Yet despite the fact that it has never officially incorporated, it is still considered to be the county seat of Baltimore County.
It is also a community that has a richer history than most proper cities. The area was settled in 1752 as a farming community, and some of the various buildings and points of interest that are dotted around town date back to the 18th and 19th century. Towson was also home to a couple of skirmishes during the Civil War.
Today, Towson has the appearance of your average bedroom community, where a relaxed, quiet vibe rules the day. However, the city is less than 10 miles from Baltimore, so those that want to enjoy the occasional slice of big city life can do so relatively easily. It should also be noted that Towson is only about an hour north of Washington, D.C., should its residents have a hankering to visit the nation's capital.
Education plays a big role in stabilizing Towson's overall economy. The city is the home of Towson University, and its enrollment of over 20,000 students makes it the second largest institution for higher learning in Maryland. The influence of the college has rubbed off on the community in a very positive way, as it is considered to be one of the state's most educated cities based on percentage of residents that hold a Bachelor's degree.
Additionally, Towson's weather patterns are highlighted by winters that are generally mild to cool in nature. This could be of interest to those that are looking to leave a city that is marked by significantly harsher wintry conditions.
A Look at Towson's Home Care
Home care, which can otherwise be known as home health care or in-home care, is a term that is used for provided to a golden ager by a highly qualified caregiver within a senior's own residence. There are two basic functions that the caregiver is charged with executing. The first function is to administer aid for the senior pertaining to various activities for daily living, which can also be known as ADLs. Some of these tasks include getting dressed, eating a meal, or bathing. The second function is to provide aid in tasks that need to be completed in order to perpetuate home care, including buying groceries, cleaning the house, and prepping meals. These dual functions point to an endgame in which the golden ager receives a solid measure of independence to go along with their care - something that they may not experience quite as readily within a senior living community.
Towson Living
The home care services that are located within Towson are important because they enable seniors to experience the aid they need on a daily basis without having to abandon the familiarity of their own home. This simple act also allows the families of the seniors receiving the care to feel a terrific measure of peace and comfort along the way.
