Several studies have indicated that approximately 12 million people throughout the United States are recipients of some iteration of home care for a host of conditions, ranging from long-term health issues to terminal illness. And this number is expected to rise, considering that the fastest growing age demographic in the country is the 70 and older age bracket. This also means that the number of families having to make the decision on providing home care for their golden aged loved one is also poised to be on the rise, and this decision is not an easy one to make. While there may be an instinct on the part of some families to try and do things themselves, the reality is that doing so could take a major toll from both a physical and an emotional standpoint. Thankfully, the fully accredited home care services that are available in Norwood, Massachusetts are on hand to help lessen the burden for these families.
Norwood in Brief
In a lot of ways, Norwood represents the idealized version of small town New England living. This city of about 29,000 residents is rich in touchstones of the nation's past, as one may hope from a Massachusetts city considering how integral the region was to the country's early years. Yet at the same time, it has set itself up as a proper modern-day bedroom community; one in which residents can readily escape the hustle and bustle of nearby Boston, which is located just over 25 miles away.
Norwood did not officially become a town until it was incorporated in 1872. However, the roots of the city can be traced back to the 17th century. And it has certainly accrued some pretty impressive stories over the centuries, from being an organizational point for the American Revolution's famed Minutemen to being a stop on Abraham Lincoln's pre-inaugural tour.
And even though Norwood is considered to be a bedroom community, complete with an economic landscape typical of suburbia, the city's adherence to history gives the city a depth of character that other 'burbs can only aspire to reach. The area is home to several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, most notably the Norwood Memorial Municipal Building and its impressive bell tower, which is home to a 57-bell carillon. The city also uses its geographic position along the Neponset River to create a type of organic, rustic charm that may not be common in other modern, carefully crafted suburbs.
And because Boston is in close proximity, Norwood residents do not have all that far to travel should they feel the need to enjoy the occasional taste of big city life. Of course, this means that residents can also get up close and personal with some of the country's most famous points of interest, such as those that are located along the city's famed Freedom Trail.
Home Care in Norwood
Home care, which can occasionally be designated as home health care or in-home care, is best defined as care that is provided by a professional caregiver to a senior within the golden ager's own place of residence. There are two types of duties that the caregiver is responsible for handling in a home care situation. Firstly, the caregiver is charged with helping out the senior with various activities of daily living, which can otherwise be known as ADLs. These activities can include basic yet essential tasks such as getting dressed in the morning, taking a bath, walking, or eating. The second type of duty involves the caregiver administering aid in ways that keep the affairs of the house in order so that home care can occur. This would include things like buying groceries, cooking meals, prepping medications, or house cleaning. And while seniors in a home care situation receive a significant measure of assistance, the fact that the elements of this aid occurs at home gives them a sense of freedom that they may not be able to attain in a traditional senior living facility.
Living a Nice Life in Norwood
The decision that families have to make for a beloved golden ager in need of aid is not an easy one. However, they can at least take comfort in knowing that there are an abundance of home care options in Norwood for them to consider. While these fully accredited services all go about providing their services slightly different from one another, they collectively work to provide golden agers with the best kind of home care that they can arrange.
