According to data culled by Statistics Canada, people aged 65 and over represent roughly 14% of the country's population. This number is projected to be on the increase, seeing as how more and more people are living longer than they ever have before. While this is obviously cause for celebration, it also means that there is likely going to be an uptick in the number of seniors that will be in need of some sort of health care in order to receive aid for various chronic conditions, ranging from long-term ailments to terminal illnesses. By this rationale, it also seems rather likely that more families are going to be faced with this having to seek out quality home care in the future. And while some families may react to this need by trying to provide care for their loved on by themselves, doing so could prove to be a task that is much too overwhelming to execute properly. Yet there is a silver lining for these families, as Milton, Ontario features a wide host of home care services that are fully capable of providing seniors with the kind of gentle, day-to-day coverage needed within the comfort of the senior’s own home.
Milton in Brief
Milton is a town that is poised for the future. This Toronto suburb of some 84,000 residents is thought to be the fastest growing city in Canada. Statistics seem to back up this sentiment, as the city's population was about 54,000 residents in 2006.
One of the key reasons that Milton has experienced such growth is due to the growth of its own borders. While the city has been officially incorporated since 1857 – a decade before Canada became an official nation – it didn't look like it currently does until 1974, when it absorbed parts of Nassagaweya Township, Esquesing, and other adjacent communities. This absorption did more than just expand the city's borders; it allowed the majestic Niagara Escarpment to be included within its city limits. This inclusion helped fuel some of Milton's more vital industries, such as heritage conservation, recreation, and tourism. It has also shown an ability to attract permanent settlers here, which seems to be happening more frequently as the years pass.
Pure nature is not the sole reason why Milton’s geographic positioning is so alluring. The city is located roughly 40 kilometers from Toronto's city center. This allows it to be close enough for residents to enjoy a slice of big city life whenever the mood strikes, yet far enough away to where the metropolitan lifestyle stays put at the end of the night. The ability to bounce back and forth between Milton and Toronto is relatively easy for Milton residents, as the GO Transit Milton line that links the two cities via commuter ends here. Those that utilize the line to ride into the city can readily explore all of the singular landmarks that Toronto has to offer without much of a fuss. This could include checking out one of their museums like the Royal Ontario Museum, a famed landmark like CN Tower, or seeing a performance from one of the city's over fifty dance and ballet troupes.
Milton and Home Care
Home care, also known as home health care, is more or less care given to a senior by a professional caregiver within a senior's own residence. The responsibilities of the caregiver are twofold. Firstly, they are responsible for providing aid in various activities for daily living, or ADLs. Some of these activities include helping a senior bathe, getting a senior dressed, or helping a senior eat or walk. Secondly, they are responsible with helping the senior take care of basic activities that are vital for keeping their home life in proper order. These activities include key functions like buying groceries, preparing medication, and cooking dinner. Ultimately, the goal of these dual roles is to provide seniors with a means to retain a distinct measure of independent living on a level that may not be achieved quite as easily within the confines of a senior living community.
Milton Living
The home care services that are located within Milton’s borders are so critical because they allow seniors to experience the aid that they need on a daily basis without having to give up the familiarity of their own home. At the same time, the service give the families of the golden age loved ones a great sense of peace, as they can take comfort in knowing that the senior in their lives will be taken care of in a dignified, caring manner.
