As the Baby Boom generation hits retirement age and seniors live longer than ever, there’s an increase in the number of people celebrating major milestones like 80th birthdays and 60th wedding anniversaries. Finding gifts tailored to those special days is easier when you’re shopping at stores that specialize in these occasions.

Jubilee Celebrations by Wellhaven has sold senior gifts and practical items since 2002. Founder Patricia Curry based the shop on her own experiences as a Baby Boomer with aging parents, and over the years the shop has added more items based on customer demand, such as 50th and even 40th birthday gifts.

Shop Description:

Jubilee Celebrations focuses on gifts for special milestones, including 80th, 90th, and 100th birthdays, retirement, and 25th to 60th wedding anniversaries. The shop also includes categories for grandparents, lifelong friends, and people who appreciate a good joke.

Pros:

Each category in the Jubilee Celebrations shop is tightly focused, making it easy to find relevant gifts and gadgets quickly. For example, the retirement gifts department includes retirement-themed pint glasses, wineglasses and martini sets, picture frames, and a “cash box” that co-workers or higher-ups can fill with gift items and cards. Milestone wedding anniversary and birthday gifts are sorted by year for quick shopping.

There are lots of little gift items such as pill boxes, throw pillows, and shawls, that are ideal for people living in small spaces such as a nursing home. Practical items for seniors include bottle-opening tools, full-page magnifiers for reading, and phones for people with hearing loss.

Cons:

The relatively small selection in each category may be a drawback for shoppers who prefer lots of choices. The inspirational and funny sayings on many of the items may not work for visually impaired or non-English reading recipients.

Cost:

Almost all of the products sold by Jubilee Celebrations cost less than $50, with many under $20. The most expensive item we found on the site is the $99.99 Clear Sounds CSC600 amplified, hearing-aid compatible speaker phone. Gift wrap costs $5.95. Online orders of $50 or more ship for free.

Fine print:

Free shipping offer applies only to items shipped within the lower 48 states. Each order can ship to only one address. To qualify for free shipping, the order must be placed online (phone orders don’t qualify); gift wrap does not count toward the $50 minimum purchase total for free shipping.

Some items are not eligible for return. All returns require an authorization number; customers are responsible for return shipping costs. A restocking fee may be charged on selected items. Jubilee Celebrations says it will notify customers of that fee, if it applies, via return-authorization email.
